It’s a testament to his life and career that we can all think of different performances of Gene Hackman’s as our favorites.

It’s always going to be Royal Tenenbaum for me. A perfect fusion of character, dialogue, and presence.

Truly a one of one -- the traits that made him such a compelling villain (Unforgiven, No Way Out, Crimson Tide) made him a great hero (Hoosiers) and comedic foil (Tenenbaums, Birdcage). RIP to a real one.

I’m not a big Wes Anderson guy (save Rushmore), but my go-to Hackman is always The Birdcage. His confusion when Nathan Lane reveals himself to be a man is just brilliance.
