The Dounreay site is in use now. Highly radioactive materials decay quickly, becoming safe quickly. Low radioactivity materials will last 310 years but you can hold it in your hand. Just don’t eat it.
The site certainly won’t be “unusable“.

I’d say they’ll be doing something else on that very site in 300 years time!
Nuclear power is crucial to supplying humanity with clean electricity and process heat. We won’t reach net zero GHG emissions without it.

Except there's l Argentina amounts of radioactive nuclear waste UKGov has been dumping in seas around 🇬🇧 hiping everyone will forget its there.
Also there's extreme risk - Chernobyl & 150 nuclear accidents at us power stations between 2006 & 2024 Fukushima

Nuclear power plants produce radioactive waste that is toxic for thousands of years. Each plant uses masses of concrete to make, is a target for war/terrorism and despite best efforts leaks radiation. They also make the fuel for nuclear weapons. Take years to build and cost a lot of money.

And we sure as shit don't need them in Scotland. There is so much England could do about their shortage of generating capacity but won't. I suspect that super expensive means super profitable for someone which is why they go that way.

Yes, but the English government wants to build them in Scotland where, if they blow up or leak radiation, important people won't be affected.
