Felix Hill was such an incredible mentor — and occasional cold water swimming partner — to me. He's a huge part of why I joined DeepMind and how I've come to approach research. Even a month later, it's still hard to believe he's gone.

What a tragedy. I never met Felix in person but corresponded with him about research from time to time, and interacted with him on Zoom. A brilliant and generous person, gone far too soon.
Felix had an incredible taste for research areas, and fantastic intuitions. He also had an almost childlike enthusiasm and curiosity about new ideas, and a great sense of humor. It was so inspiring to work with him.
He also deeply cared about the people he worked with, and he and @janexwang.bsky.social brought together an amazing collection of people early in my time at DeepMind: @scychan.bsky.social Aaditya Singh, Allison Tam, and many other friends and collaborators.
But he also had a difficult time, particularly the last few years. The last time I talked to him was about a month before he passed away; he pitched me an ambitious and slightly crazy project and I saw a glimpse of the old days.
But I was busy and didn't follow up again until it was too late. I regret that. But I hope he's found some peace, and I'm grateful that I got to work with him, and for all the wonderful collaborators and friends I met through him. Rest in peace, Felix.
I’m so very sorry for the loss of your dear friend & under such circumstances, Andrew. RIP, Felix. I hope science and medicine can come to find better solutions for all those with these types of needs. We must find better ways.
Thank you for sharing this, Andrew. Felix started at DM the same month I began my internship and I fondly remember many conversations we had then. I regret not interacting more with him since then. What a terrible loss. 💔
