i was just talking to someone who believes that it's impossible for the united states to have prevented isreal from committing war crimes. given my own experience of living through post 9/11 america i'm willing to give that argument some credence!
if we assume it's impossible for america to prevent isreal from pursuing its offensive in gaza then what could we do? i think biden and blinken should have publicly denounced the evictions from north gaza, stopped supporting israel at the u.n., and stopped sending israel weapons
I think the question is what does Israel do if the U.S. leaves and is it worse than what they do if we're constantly nagging them to not do war crimes.
And that's an open question, who knows, but "Netanyahu immediately burns Gaza to the ground and offers the ruined land to his supporters to maintain his coalition" is at least one plausible result.
Nope! And hey, it's also plausible that U.S. threats instantly collapse Netanyahu and Israel riots and he's out by Christmas. Could happen! But we at least need to admit and consider the risk that things might get way worse.
the problem is that the small amount of finger-wagging the u.s. has done where they tell isreal to not commit war crimes is kinda drowned out by the way they keep sending them more and more bombs for them to use to carry out war crimes
What is the mechanism by which we could stop Israel from committing war crimes in Gaza? I think the only way is "Bomb Tel Aviv," which I'm not opposed to but nobody is willing to commit to.
