Forget explaining that you 1) didn't need the TV on to record 2) it could be on a different channel.
They don't like asking their kids for help too.
I can’t say that I haven’t removed the batteries on occasion when I leave the house and even then he still tries to use it.
As an adult...
But also a lot of these posts read like the parents are in early stages of cognitive and/or sensory decline and their kids don’t realize it yet.

I feel seen!
what it's like to be the only geek in the family
Ask me how I know.
She has a laptop & an email address.
😬😆
I guess the one good thing about no longer speaking to my 80-year old parents after finding out they didn't vote blue this time is that I no longer have to be their (unqualified) IT tech each time I visit.
I think they offer that.
Me: What folder did you save it in?
Mum:
Me: What did you name the file?
Mum:
I lost mine this summer 😭

Parents passed before they got a computer
My son got the worse introduction to computers in high school
He was working on a masters degree when I got him an Apple laptop and the phone calls finally stopped
I'm not sure if it was the same person, but my mother also told me there was someone who was afraid to go near an empty light socket because
Not me.
And it's not easy as a parent to ask your kids for help.
If they’re not going to exercise the minimum effort to learn, I’m not going to help any more.
Most of this stuff has been around 30+ years and being indifferent to adapting to changes, in anyone, drives me nuts.
One never knows how much time you have left with your folks. If helping her fix her t.v. is part of how I spend that time, oh well.
It's always hard to determine the motivations of others.
Took me 20 minutes to figure out she was complaining about Clippy.
"No, Mom, it's not hackers, it's because you have one bar of reception in your neighborhood"
Now what did you push to get here!?”
But one day you too will be asking your kids for their assistance!
Because the complexities of computers & their constant changes & new tech all the time are difficult to keep on top of, & memory deteriorates for everyone as they age!
So don’t mock too smugly!
NO Mom, you should not pay that $400 Norton security software renewal invoice from some random email address, as you have a MAC😀🤣

-No mom {why would I welcome that hell?}

-{🙄, we've been here before} is CapLk on?
-No! Why would I do that? Did u put my Capslk on?
-🤪 no mom. Is the light above Numlk on?
It's such a terrible mix of emotions, reflexive frustration at your parent immediately followed by guilt and then rage at the feature growth-driven corporate model of OS design today.
They need to make an OldOS that has like 3 applications and super simple interfaces everywhere.
My nieces fought that battle, migrated her right off, brought the whole desktop to Goodwill

My mom would "Volunteer' me as tech support to people at church whenever I went to visit
So all of that x10
My favorite: *long step by step instructions*
Her: Nothing's happening
Me: Ok, lets go back, step1,that's ok, step 2..
Her; Oh I didn't do that one. Did I need to?
The struggle is real
