Right. I think that back during Trump's first presidency, Republicans treated him like an aberration and a fluke. He won because of a split field, he didn't win the popular vote and not with the traditional GOP base. So they could brush him off (and did occasionally).

Now, the Trump coalition IS the GOP coalition. He won the popular vote. The Roy Blunts, Rob Portmans, Bob Corkers and McCains of the world are gone. The Tillises and Cassidys have refashioned themselves as Trump acolytes and you got the Hawleys, Schmitts and Tubervilles.

Once again, the contrast between how Democrats treat Pelosi versus how Republicans treat McConnell fascinates. Basically Democrats treated Pelosi like calling mom for help after Biden's debate. Republicans boo McConnell despite everything he's done for them.
