I've been happy with my Osprey, which I carried on several hundred miles of the Arizona Trail, in the Grand Canyon and on other trails in AZ. My work pack is also an Osprey. I have had it for about 12 years, using it for trail design in the desert, where it gets poked and scratched (as do I) a lot.

I have used a HypeLite for a number of years. I find it comfortable and I would never go back to a heavier pack. Every ounce matters when you are carrying it on your back. Get did of all those pockets, zippers, ties, the brain... Less is more.

My Hyperlite Southwest 40 is the best-fitting pack I've owned in 45 years of backpacking. It stands up to the rigors of off-trail hiking and provides plenty of volume for a full-comfort setup (10 deg bag, pillow, etc.).
