Agreed. And there are no guarantees, however good they appear on paper. I'm not knocking Piroe, but remember when we signed him and no one could believe he'd signed for us instead of a Prem team?

Likewise a magician like 10 would of course be welcome but in my opinion Brenden doesn’t deserve to be dropped & with Struijk back, Ampadu will move into midfield & either Rothwell or Tanaka will likely be sat on the bench soon with Gnonto & Ramazani, two of the best players in the division. #lufc

worth noting that if we've got Ampadu back in midfield that I can see a midfield 3 of Ampadu, Rothwell and Tanaka if, for whatever reason, Aaronson isn't playing. And Piroe is more of a 10 than a 9 too and can always be put in behind Joseph/Bamford. Our squad is quite deep as it stands.

You could plausibly field Rothwell at 10 - or indeed Tanaka. For me it wouldn't concern me at all, pending seeing it spectacularly fail before my eyes. Even then you've got Solomon, Gnonto & Ramazani - all players who I think would do just fine there.

Even without getting into the option of Piroe dropping back to 10 if necessary, there are several credible alternatives to Aaronson if push comes to shove - I think Solomon, Ramazani & Gnonto could all do it but also Tanaka could be a bit of an ace in the hole once Ampadu is back in midfield. #lufc

Play 4-3-3 and use Rothwell and Tanaka ahead of Ampadu.

If you don’t want to change the shape play Gnonto behind the main striker in a second striker role.

Agreed (broadly). But then we still have options to play that 10 role. Gnonto has played in that role before, Ramazani has played 9 and Piroe could drop to 10. There are other combos to.

BA has played an awful lot of football and to be fair to him he's been pretty robust but a couple of away games out of the starting 11 wouldn't hurt with Rothwell driving fwd from the 10 role whilst providing a bit more defensive insurance

Away from ER teams try too shithouse and rough house even more. Chances become limited.For all BA good work this season,Rothwells experience/setplays a bit more physically would be good,a flying BA along with largie, Gnonto/ joesph would be a nightmare for a tired defence.

Really? We’ve seen Piroe do it to a reasonable degree of proficiency before (see our first two goals against Cardiff for a demonstration of how he can pick a pass) & then there are a host of players I think are playing below their level & could plug that gap if it came to it. #lufc

I’ve no problem playing Joseph up front at all, his movement & pressing is good. I also think Piroe being involved further back is not the worst scenario either, he’s currently on a goal contribution every 100 minutes this season. Our wingers, midfielders & full-backs can cover somewhat too. #lufc

Man, we're not in the premier league and there is absolutely no guarantee we will be come the end of the season. We've stood still (could even argue gone backwards with Joffy leaving, spare parts though he was) and everyone else has strengthened massively in an incredibly tight race. Madness imo.

I think it would have been good to bring in any players definitively better than what we have but who is that? Who fits that description & is also available, affordable, suitable etc? Barely anyone fits this criteria. Our rivals have strengthened because frankly none of them have a squad as good.

I don’t think their squads are *as good* but still very good - particularly the Blunts and Burnleh. It’s entirely plausible they pip us to automatic promotion but I don’t the think the players to insulate us from this eventuality were available to us in this window.
