I think more music acts should bring back the "Interact CD ROM" thing. Not really a "game" per se but an interactive, exploration-based audio visual experience that controls like a point and click game but doesn't really have goals or pass/fail states other than seeing what it has to offer
Off the top of my head I'm thinking of the Musique Concrete CD-Rom album Venetian Deer but there's also ofc Prince Interactive (or [UNPRONOUNCEABLE SYMBOL] Interactive ig)
Β«BiophiliaΒ» by BjΓΆrk was an interesting early entry in that genre, and I think We Are OFK by @teddydief.bsky.social & co would also fit that bill. There was even a great short Skrillex EP-game.
But Sayonara is an intertwined album + game on a level that seems really tough to repeat.
Ultrakill's 7-4 definitely feels like you're playing through a music video with multiple transitions. And also in the new Alan Wake you literally play through a musical act. There is still hope.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll give them a look. Was originally thinking more on a grander scale, with popular artists commissioning devs (like how some commission animation studios for their music videos).

Without their music, they are less than half the games they are
I have a form of synesthesia so I made a game (+ a level editor) specifically geared to making "playable music videos."

Some proper bops on it.
