Taoiseach Simon Harris speaks with a woman who says she is a carer. His coldness, condescension and lack of empathy for someone who is clearly genuine, upset and exasperated and says more than I can.

He keeps getting elected despite his disinterest so he doesn’t bother hiding it. I told ff canvassers they wouldn’t get my vote as I was a Bessboro adoptee and their treatment of survivors was appalling. They couldn’t care less.
Here I will fix it for him: "I don't think we ignored you, I can stand here and tell you everything we did, but I'm much more interested in hearing how that wasn't enough and why you're standing here telling me we ignored you. Tell me what happened. Tell me what it's been like for you"
The way he immediately dismissed her concerns shows you exactly how much consideration Harris/FG give to people struggling like that woman. Disgraceful, but not one bit surprising.
I’ve dealt with hundreds of families who have had to negotiate the delays, forms, labyrinthine, built-in obstacles of our health service, trying to get help for their child through CAMNS, Enable Ireland, CDNTs. 2.5 decades. It’s getting worse.
He does a great job of oh, here's a vulnerable person that I can pretend to be compassionate towards. As soon as he knows he won't get traction with him, he walks away.
I've seen it in person myself. And if I'm honest, I didn't see through it initially.
Yep. He had me fooled with the promises he made as Minister for Health. I credited the pandemic with how none of them actually materialized. Now he's got nothing to hide behind and the monumental cynicism of his false promises and faux concern are very visible now.
Fitzgerald was an anomaly. He was a 'wet Tory' in a party that's always been a weird conflation of Victorian values, Catholic nationalism, soft Unionism, and fascism.
That’s one of the most telling clips I’ve seen. No interest in listening to her valid concerns as soon as he realised she wasn’t there to fawn over him. The lack of empathy & respect for a carer in the country he’s supposed to be leading is wild.
Funny had two FG canvassers call to the door today asked them why they thought it appropriate with among the most expensive power in Europe they were increasing it by 2% in’25 and can they explain hate speech bill to me. They walked away from me too.
Not a good look @simonharrisireland.bsky.social . Condescending , lack of heart in this interaction. @finegaelparty.bsky.social we can do better surely.

“We were ignored!”
“No, no, no, no, not so.”
“Yes we were.”
“No you weren’t.”
“Yes we were!”
One positive for Harris is that he won’t be short of offers heading into Panto season.
He realized how walking away looked, so went back, feigned interest and understanding, then patronized her with an opportunistic handshake.
Our Government. Doesn’t. Care.

I assume. My bad
We should have known. You don't join FG if you've any actual compassion for vulnerable people.
The less seen of him the better, methinks.
A perfect example of what I have been pointing out for over a decade now.
I don't think Fine Gael can.
It's not in it's DNA.
