CHP is a centre left, social democratic party which supports human rights and rule of law, democratic government, civil liberties, judicial independence. It veers into populist rhetoric under electoral pressure but so do many in the EU. Why do you see this as equivalent to Erdogan?

It rabble rouses against Syrian refugees to such an extreme extent that it results in mob violence against them.Its politicians and cadres utter the most extreme racist slurs. It promotes Turkish hyper-nationalism. Its leader also often deny Assad regime crimes in Syria.

In terms of the assault on the press and on democratic mechanisms, Erdogan is currently worse (though the CHP in power was happy to join the military in repressing Erdogan's political trend, so it's not clear that they would be any better.) In terms of pritection of Syrian refugees,
