It's even more incredible when you consider European cuisine is among those LEAST affected by new world crops. Try to imagine African, SE Asian, Indian, Chinese, or Mideastern food without tomatoes, bell peppers and/or chilli.

And aside from the British Isles and Germany, varieties of grain grits (Kascha, Couscous, Bulgur, Grutze, Paella, Mamaliga, Polenta, though the latter two use another new world crop, corn) and bread still are quite important as sides. Potatoes as dominant side are very coastal West Euopean fringe.
