I’m at an entire conference this week that has gone from the intended topic to how much knowledge and experience we are losing, and potentially (at the very least) pissing off some of the most highly specialized people in the world.

As someone who used to work for one of the national labs, I have seen this first-hand. And it can take anywhere from 1 to 3 years for us to train a person to be useful. So getting rid of the newer employees sucks, too!

I worked out of natl lab for a bit, there is an entire generation gap of researchers that would have been entering the field in late 80’s-90’s. Where you have 20-40 something’s and 70+ somethings but those higher level experienced people at top of their game are just not there, even now.
