Listening and reading are both very valuable, but theyβre not the same thing. Audiobooks make books accessible to many. Theyβre not reading at all. Not βphysically readingβ? Huh? Youβre listening not reading. Iβm not saying one is better but letβs stop lying and saying listening is reading.
It doesn't matter if they aren't physically reading. It counts just the same. Gatekeeping it just puts people off of books. My point is it doesn't matter as long as you are making it through a book. Listening counts exactly the same
Except no. Reading is different than listening. No one is saying itβs worse. Itβs a different skill and activity. You wanna say you read a book when you listened to it? Go right ahead. I simply disagree with that premise.
With how many people are illiterate, blind, mentally ill, or with other disabilities, listening counts exactly the same. You're just going to separate book "readers" and book enjoyers. Don't make readers look like pretentious dicks
π author recommendations: James Clavell to improve your vocabulary and invoke strong feelings for characters in his historical fiction books. Carl Sagan books to increase your intelligence, awareness, and empathy. Top faves from both: Nobel House (yes over Shogun) and The Demon Haunted World.
