They are protesting about Inheritance tax to be paid over 10 years at a much better rate than everyone else but tolerate being robbed by big businesses, let the public know why they make so little for their produce

They’re protesting over IHT that they’ll never be able to pay because they’re asset-rich with minimal cashflow.

What alternatives do you think they have, beyond trying to get supermarkets to charge more and pass on the entire difference?

Yes. Because a lack of understanding of who makes money is the supply chain is a genuine problem. Instead of asking government to fix it via handout to farmers force the focus onto where the profits actually go.

I'm sure there are huge variations across the different supply chains, meat Vs veg, grains Vs milk. But the idea that IHT relief is the best solution to the lack of profit in farming is not credible.

I am unsympathetic as most know ways to avoid it still but a. Don't want to talk about death with their kids b. Can't be bothered to talk to their accountant c. In no circumstances want to cede power or control to anyone in their family. The hierarchy is all they have.

The problem is that the cheerleaders for their campaign are the likes of Clarkson and Dyson, who are clearly just using farmland as a tax dodge. But when any of the real farmers at the protests were asked how it would affect them, not one of them had actually done the sums – not helping themselves!

I live there and you should see the state of the local Facebook groups! They really are sucking up the lines that these are all salt of the earth farmers and you just can’t tell them it’s actually the people they are supporting that are making it worse. Outside of MK is very heavy Tory/Remain
