Post 9/11 they started to implement the security checks on internal flights, people were not happy at being slightly inconvenienced to prevent another hijacking killing 100’s of people…

We HAD the best intelligence agencies anywhere in the world. With Trump at the helm of this country's safety, I'm no longer sure about that so we could probably expect more terrorism to occur. Who knows, Musk might even consider disbanding the TSA claiming it's a waste of money.🙄

It was the reason for 9/11…. For years passengers were told that in a hijacking stay calm and don’t react…. It’s why TSA isn’t needed.. now passengers will resist

Like... Some people have families who live really far away! In other parts of the world, even! Some people have to travel for work - even folks who aren't "business" people. Not flying isn't an option for everybody.

Yea, but that was when flying was still something you did maybe once every few years. A special occasion. You dressed up.

Now it’s more casual and impulse driven. Which may make it easier to give up.

I remember the end of that era, the 70-72 period and can confirm the jokes about it. Thing was, flying was *still way safer than driving*. There weren't airbags yet, or shoulder belts, just regular seatbelts, often ignored. Drunk driving was still v common. So risk was relative.
