I saw him in Park City years ago, but he didn’t play anything familiar. It was good at the end. He finally looked up and said thank you, and he walked off the stage. That was the only time he looked at the audience.

Fellow fans of the Bobster might possibly be interested in obtaining a copy of this particular DVD. It features all of Dylan’s performances from the 1963, 1964, and 1965 Newport Folk Festivals, including his ‘65 electric set. The picture and sound quality are excellent. Well worth the money IMO. 👍

The real-life Dylan broke up with longtime gf Suze Rotolo in 1964, started hooking up with Joan Baez around 1963, met Sara Lownds in 1964 and married her in 1965. Right after going electric at Newport. The dude was busy! 😀

I think it WAS a betrayal... not because he played electric... that was only symbolic. The actual betrayal was turning his back on social activism and becoming a rock star. His lyrics never had the same power, and the songs that endure are mostly from before that moment.

Dylan's astounding success after Newport is well known and not in dispute. Not everyone liked it. Too bad for them. They missed out on enjoying some great music based on some imagined principle to which the artist thankfully did not adhere.

Had a cousin who was there, and booed. He always said that there were as many cheering Dylan. They knew who Bloomfield was; he had played Newport with Paul Butterfield. Those folkies weren't ignorant of the music. They are the reason the old Blues people aren't forgotten.
