Buddy y’all sensationalize too much for clicks and don’t do enough educating without the sprinkles of tin foil hat rhetoric. So many fires happen here especially near the LA Forest area and none have gotten as much attention.
Arson should be seen as terrorism at this point or attempted murder-
the multitude of eucalyptus trees and other explosive trees not being mentioned is insane! Everyone is jumpy and panicky right now and y’all keep losing your credibility & wanting clicks.
Oh, for heaven’s sake! This picture was posted 26 minutes ago? Eaton’s 95% contained, Palisades is 70% contained, but there’s a helluva nasty 9457 acre 5% contained fire called Hughes in northern Los Angeles County right now that’s not on the map. Keep it current, there’s a reason it’s called news.
As a native Californian who has been through a lot of fires, I’m just gonna say it:
1) Somebody is setting these fires;
2) No rain for 8 months, plus hurricane force winds equals practically unstoppable fires;
3) Yes, there has been some government incompetence, but could you do better?
4) Help!
2 and 3 were on the money but I'm not sure about 1. Lots of things kick off wildfires. Purposeful arson isn't common. The Line Fire, which I was in, was an exception.
But yeah. Unstoppable. I wish more would just accept that. Blaming is off the table with some things. Respect and humility is better
There’s a lot of conspiracy theories floating around regarding who benefits from huge swaths of neighborhoods that have burned (including property developers and insurance companies eager to pull out). Plus, California does have its fair share of now-pardoned Seditionists eager for retribution. 🤷♀️
Around natural disasters I try to avoid conspiracies. Too much.
But will people try and take advantage? Sure. That's what people do. But Newsom has signed some orders to slow that roll a bit
Given where these fires started tells me it's not arson. But I'm guessing. It absolutely could be. We'll see
It's right wing nuts starting fires and in concert with Trump to then blame the resulting devastation on the Democrats in charge with the hope of people voting more for Republicans so they can take over California. The same playbook they used with the economy to get Trump elected.
No. It's really not. And if I were true (again, which it's not) California MAGA's would dump that whole shit show immediately. I don't think there's one Californian who lives in wildfires areas, which a lot of MAGA's here do, that would be on board with that.
I’m sorry, but a lot of far right extremists, especially those who I would consider domestic terrorists that stormed the capitol, climbed the walls, sh*t in the halls of Congress, and harmed & killed police officers—there’s really not much I would put past most of them. I said what I said.
People don't have to set such fires. Anything can cause them, sparks from equipment or powerlines, an unextinguished cigarette, In those conditions a tiny ember can set everything off.
As for number 3, didn't they divert firefighting money to the police?
The latter question is answered not exactly. Plus that is a city of Los Angeles assertion and the Eaton Fire is not Los Angeles. Also that map is deceptive. Kenneth, Sunset, and Archer Fires have been out for well over a week. The Hughes Fire started today, but it’s above Santa Clarita.
Agreed. It’s really alarming, though, that nobody on a national media scale (that I’m aware of) has even attempted to present the facts on the real situation with California’s fire funds. Meanwhile, the amount of vitriol towards California from MAGA, and blaming the liberals, is infuriating.
Well, agreed. And we had Caruso, who lost the last mayoral race, blame Mayor Bass for there being no water on the 7th.
As if Mr. Lower Taxes, Create Homeless Camps would have spent the money to rush in two years capital improvements to provide for smooth water delivery with 4x demand.
So many stupid FB commenters said:
-Why were the reservoirs empty? (only 2 were, for repairs)
-Why did the hydrants run dry? (Because you can’t run them all at full blast & not lose pressure)
-Where are all the tankers? (Try flying close to the ground in 80mph gusts)
GAH! Bite me you ignoramuses!
No amount of water can be sufficient for such a firestorm. You would have needed the kind of waterbombing aircraft that's able to use salt water. And using them can cause problems later.
In Australia, that's situation normal. The press will always give the right a free pass, while Labor,the more progressive of the two major parties,get everything heaped on them. Particularly in the 2019 fires and during the pandemic,the incompetent conservative prime minister always got a free pass.
Sort of like the American south does with all the hurricanes and tornadoes. You never hear the far right getting blamed for the increase in storms, the lack of funding, or for rebuilding in hurricane/flood/tornado-prone areas.
Fair point, but some of these fires are pretty sketchy in terms of how and where they started. As for the firefighting budget, there’s been a TON of misinformation put out there. Here’s some sources for details:
I’ve never thought such a populated place could be so vulnerable. I’m a fire survivor too, and I hope for shelter and recovery ❤️🩹 for LA. I’m so deeply sorry for this fire season’s intensity.
If California were an independent country, we wouldn't have sent $85B more to the Federal government than we receive in Federal spending. That would be enough for us to handle this independently rather than kissing the ring between a rapist convicted felon's cheeks.
