Demi Moore was favored by many to win the Oscar for best actress. Some fans felt that her loss underscored one of the central themes of “The Substance,” the challenges older actresses face in a Hollywood that is obsessed with young women.

Being rich..really rich..studio head-rich..newspaper-owning rich, is all about luring women who normally wouldn't give you the time of day- but not old ones.
Perhaps, but I remember Kate Hepburn winning her 4th when she was elderly. On Golden Pond. Demi has time and she's good, she's gotten better with age and life.
The only ones who care about the Oscars is the American establishment, the media, and Hollywood. Nobody else really cares how an award is being manipulated.
We live in a post-irony world. Men are being entirely open about their preference for young, vulnerable, often naked young women without the need to pretend otherwise.
Yeah Demi gave a good performance for sure, but easily Madison gave the superior oscar worthy one and it wasn't even close. The people salty over that are delusional.
I'm sorry but her acting was not as good, mostly not because of her but because the material she was working with was worse than the material in Anora. There were other noms who deserved to beat her as well
I have little patience for the imagined woes of Hollywood. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Right now, we have real issues to worry about. Roe v Wade, the SAVE ACT, our Russia First Policy, the entire cabinet, are more important than Demiless losing an Oscar.
Moore was excellent in The Substance to be sure. But Anora was a much better film, Madison's performance was astounding, & she more than deserved the win. If Moore had won it would have been more to acknowledge her long career. Ageism in Hollywood exists, but let's not deprive Madison of her moment.
So you’re saying when Michelle Yeoh won, she was 44?
And the “this county” shit is dumb as fuck bro. If you think that America is especially more misogynistic than European countries, then you’ve never been to Europe.
(also why is @nytimes.com so weirdly obsessed with Demi Moore? Two recent sycophantish features, now this, when there are so many other stories to tell about very fine actors and films.)
The movie itself worked against her unfortunately. I spent 2 hours engrossed in it only to be thoroughly pissed off at how they chose to end a really good premise.
