It’s extremely hard to watch it in Canada if you don’t pay for cable. It’s a struggle to find a way to stream it every year. I wish they would make it easier.
There are loads of great movies, from the USA, and the rest of the world! You just need to look further than mainstream Hollywood, and all the rubbishy superhero junk.
ANORA, SING SING, A REAL PAIN, or THE APPRENTICE - all U.S. films and all excellent works!
If the Oscars weren't a show for gringos to lick each other, they would realize the advantages of including more foreign movies and artists to raise their audiences and importance worldwide.
Have never fully watched the Oscars. I just enjoy my movies. It also never feels like winners genuinely represent what people liked. It is also so US-centric.
It was a geriatric Boomerfest. Old James Bond franchise tunes, embarrassingly cheap looking costumed background dancers, Conan with his boring jokes, the dirge playing during the In Memoriam segment, and in general, very low production value. Who needs it?
Entertainment awards seem so trivial compared to what is happening in the world. I find it interesting that one of the top winners isn’t widely available to be viewed in the US. Something feels very off.
Honestly I never saw any of those movies available in my local theatre. I haven't been going to movies much since COVID and haven't really seen the fun comedies and rom-coms like we used to have. Everything is either Marvel or high drama or a lot of violence.
I guess the Oscars are important for people working in the movie industry; but for the general public? Award shows always feel like a party you’re not invited to. In the best case it might inform me the day after about what movies I should consider streaming during the coming months or so.
I'm a huge movie freak, watching actual but also classic movies and are really interested in the art and history of movies. But never cared about the Oscars. I'm happy when an actor I like or a non mainstream movie gets some publicity but when seeing movies as art the Oscars are the least important
if the academy is smart, it will change the focus to international viewers. a lot of money can be made acknowledging smaller markets with passionate fanbases.
When democracy is about to go off a cliff, it seems strange to do things like Oscars. We’re all trying to act like we aren’t being taken over by an autocrat and the richest man in the world or…?
Every year the Academy Awards broadcast loses viewers. Young people just don’t watch TV and they don’t have the patience to sit through a “live broadcast”. They like looking at short video clips on their phones.
I love reading the ceremony autopsy on why viewership is down & almost never does it include the fact that it's longer than most of the movies nominated
This whole floating space rock is going to hell in a handbasket. I don't have that much time. I'm gonna watch the 3 minute YT video for each award
