The Supreme Court will soon hear three important religion cases. The cases will test the limits of the court’s assertive vision of religious liberty, which has been one of its distinctive commitments for more than a decade. Here’s what to know.

Why are y’all separating the word religion from the word freedom? Practicing your religion is a right given to all! Even having no religion! For y’all that yell, “ My rights…!” , every minute, it seems very hypocritical to not want Freedom for All! Hate is the religion you choose? So be it!
Religion is man made to control man, it's why the religious right goes nuts because they absolutely completely believe nothing but the Bible, I have a question where any of these people there when they wrote the Bible, back in the year of the flood?
Try telling THEM that. The Govt now has a dept devoted to religion....white "Christian" evangelical religion, that is. They never address or fight for Buddhism, Shintoism, Hinduism, etc. and you can forget about Islam.
@nytimes.com Again, stop with the stupid headlines. This is no “winning streak” for the American people—religion winning is a terrible blow for our Democracy—remember, division between church and state. That’s how we the people want it and like it. Sadly too many members of the Supreme Court forget.
What if your 'religion' is democracy? What if your 'religion' is science? What if your 'religion' is justice? Or perhaps--what if your 'religion' is a combination of the above three? How shall the court treat those of us who believe in these and live our lives accordingly?
Religious freedom is freedom from religious interference of our lives! Trumptard and his kkkhristian minions are invading our personal freedom from religion with sharia laws against women, people of color and the lgbtqia community!
More wholesale re-writing of the Constitution to fit Repub worldview. Instead of protecting the secular government & its citizens from the imposition of a state religion (aka establishment clause), Christianity is the state religion. Anything less is a major violation of the free exercise clause.
He's going to force his GOP marionettes to nominate him as quickly as possible in case he causes a recession or fucks up another pandemic. Then, he'll bleat to SCOTUS about the will of the people being ignored if a "hugely popular" candidate is denied another term by a mere constitutional amendment.
In my opinion, religion is the single most destructive force on earth. Its history is drenched in bloodshed, murder, and hatred. Imagine the beginnings of this insanity where children and others were ritualistically sacrificed to a non-existent god. No wonder fascists love religion.
“Distinctive commitments” and not “evisceration of bedrock constitutional and first amendment principles and jurisprudence” is a typical editorial choice.
You mean right-wing Christianity, not religion. I'm fairly sure Islam and Satanism (to name only a few) are not what these cases had in mind to promote.
Remarkable?? It's been in the works since Moscow Mitch became Majority Leader under Obama and rammed these psychologically damaged zealots (and the occasional drunk) through Judicial confirmation hearings. American Taliban movement's thrived since the smear vs higher learning kicked into overdrive.
Just spoke to a friend whose college professor questioned the "trueness" of what was being reported on the Signal chat lawsuit case and insinuated that biden did it first and that we should all "take a break from the news cycle"? The crazies are still out and proud people!
Has the Court majority *weakened* faith in public life by tolerating coercion by idolaters and blasphemers? Is @nytimes.com sure that’s not what’s happening?
What's Evil? What's Christianity? Did God send Trump and Musk to save this world? Does Christianity reward those who treat poor people with cruelty?? Do I read this wrong? Love your neighbor as yourself.Love your enemies. Do to others as you would have them do to you! Am I a Christian or am I a fool
If they wanna continuously shove religion into our government and our schools then we want the IRS and the churches and all religious organizations! It's time to attack all religious organizations in this country!
Let's see? Over half the court was cherry picked by the Federalist society and the heritage foundation. How do we think it will go? And when you stop ignoring the separation of church and state, democracy dies. Every time.
Just for the record, did you also happen to grow up in a religious and repressive community that helped you "realize" that it was a "decision" you made?

Additionally, the democrats had 2 years of holding both chambers & the white house and they didn't expand the Supreme Court...

Jews aren't winning in an antisemitic atmosphere. Muslims are still being scapegoated. Catholics may think they're safe, but just wait.
This shouldn’t be a surprise.
Does the court majority defend liberty of conscience? Not consistently
Do some Baptists, Jews, and Lutherans see “religious liberty” very differently? Yes >
Coercion doesn’t bolster faithfulness
NYT can call it an “assertive vision of religious liberty” but I wouldn’t say that
