When people talk about the "male loneliness" problem, this is what they mean. The "problem" is that women have options. Loneliness hasn't been an issue for the thousands of years women experienced it while trapped in an abusive marriage, but when men need to treat women like humans, it's a problem

In 1976 ,22yrs old I was desperate for a job. I applied .The man interviewing me took one look at my wedding ring and said “oh you’ll be having children soon “(didn’t for 8yrs). “You live too far away”(15 minutes). “I’d rather have a man in this job”. It was rough back then. Over educated 😞

💯 I am often reminding people that post Civil Rights Act of 1964, it took a more than a few minutes for Brown women to have choices. My youngest Aunt who became an adult in the 70s had many more choices than her older sisters who came of age in the 60s.

Religion had a larger role in keeping women in abusive relationships as well. I remember my mom's best friend leaving the Catholic church because they refused her sacraments because she divorced her adulterous husband.

My father is shocked at the concept of incels- wasn't around when he was young.
Because women were forced to settle for the losers to function in society.
They didn't have incels- but they did have a lot of angry, formerly abused divorcees.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure paid parental leave still isn't available to everyone -- the only thing that's legally required for employers to offer is FMLA (12 weeks unpaid).

When I got married in '99, my grandma took me aside and asked me if I'd set up a secret acct to stash away money that my husband wouldn't know about so I could leave if necessary. She offered to hold it for me if I didn't want to set up an acct.

In the 70's you couldn't get a credit card unless you were married. And to this day if you are married, your husband's name in on the top on your mortgage. The name on top is the predominant one.

Parents bought house in 1964.
My mom was listed as "and spouse" on deed.
Paid off mortgage in mid-1980's.
They went to county office to change deed to include her name.
Guy there asked my dad why HE wanted to do that.
We will not go back easily.

In 1998, I was 27 and working at a machine shop. My supervisor wanted to send me for training on programming the newer machines. The owner said no, I’m not spending the money when she’ll just leave to get married & have kids. I left for another job instead.
