Been wondering when that would come up. One day I saw the horror of an exploded pinto. I saw folks driving on auto pilot in morning traffic - scares me
No, some EV makers have copied Tesla, and now they're finding 'everything on a screen' ain't so popular - or safe.
The whole idea was based on being cheap. A touchscreen meant no buttons, switches, etc. But it means digging through menus, which is stupid in a car where you need to watch the road.
The slow learners buying Teslas this minute are still of the higher socioeconomic status. Laughing at them is still punching up, and Americans are conditioned against punching up.
There were 27 deaths attributed specifically to the design of the vehicle (there were more deaths, and fires, just not attributable to the design). That was in 3 million Pintos over 7 years. There have been 6.8 million Teslas in 16 years.
I didn't notice that on their cars. I drove one in Houston and right away, I scratched the crap out of the hub cap. Bad design. Take a look at most of the black ones. They've all been touched up. Also, anyone with stainless appliances know how dumb it was to use it for the Cybertruck.
The Cybertruck alone spiked those numbers. One of the two projects Elon had most controlled. The other super famous Cyberbike that everyone owns, right....
Yup, I was there in the pinto era, my best friend had one. If you went up a steep hill the whole glove box would loosen and shift, eventually it fell off.
Good point, problem is, most just do not think things through. Tesla cars are fast, real fast. And many tesla drivers drive way too many miles. Makes perfect sense that they have more terrible accidents. Auto fatalities in US and India are always high, and, there are many reasons for this.
But, that is not my point. Read a lot of EV reports from various sources, and see just crazy amount of miles driven per year by Tesla owners, think the problem is just too much of everything! Speed and miles driven are problems, regardless of auto. In US, average now 14,000 miles per year.
As to Tesla's, I often see people bragging about driving 100,000 miles being driven in one or two years! We, are the killers, and all these machines are just the tools! We can blame Tesla, Ford, Hitler, "Uncle Dave" , but ultimately, we, and our greed, egos, are the real problem.
Not aware of these numbers, only reports that I have seen are actually the opposite, that EV miles are higher than combined average. Again, US is close to 14,000 per year (all autos), UK now 12,000, most of Europe is around 8,000.
It creates mistrust of EVs, which is counterproductive to mitigations against climate change. Evs are less prone to fires than gasoline-powered vehicles (#2) or hybrids (#1). Rather than celebrate this, the rational, moral thing to do would be advocate for more oversight and study of the Tesla issue
We’ve become do accustomed to corporate negligence and greed killing us that we barely blink when it happens. It’s some dystopian version of ‘frog in a pot’.
We need to collectively stay mad about bad things that can actually be changed - and give feet to that anger.
Quite a few have actually caught fire in my neighborhood during the Hurricanes and took the homes with them. I’ve also seen two catch fire at charging stations at a CVS and they took out four other cars next to them. I’ve seen people get locked in them including kids too. I would never buy one. 😡
Nah nah nah…

One person cites source so a thousand don’t have to.
Worth noting that Ford sold a grand total of 3.1m over the entire decade of production. Tesla sold more than half that amount just in 2023. It's always worth comparing based on metrics like "per 100k vehicles" or "per 1m miles driven" rather than raw numbers to really have a good picture
also worth noting the Pintos cited only from the rear end collisions that caused their recalls. ICE engines catch fire from other reasons, but those don't get included in these numbrers.
Yeah, but you have to keep in mind that Pintos were so poorly built that they'd sometimes refuse to idle if pointed uphill. We were just looking for a reason to ban them.
That's because back in '78 we didn't have Fox News and the gigantic conservative media machine to distract people and muddy the waters every time any giant corporation acts poorly the way we do now. Nope, more important to talk about trans people in bathrooms than all those who died in Tesla fires.
The Pinto debacle happened when we still had some bandwidth left with which to be horrified. Very little happens these days that truly shocks me. I feel caught in a whirlpool.
Honestly, kind of impressed at the number of people arguing for their chance to expire, possibly asleep, and trapped in a rapidly accelerating, flaming Deplorean.
I owned a 2 Pintos, never had a problem and I have had to endure the jokes.
My son in law owned a Tesla and was totally disappointed in its performance.
The rate at which Teslas catch fire is not higher than the average rate of cars catching fire per year in the U.S., I don’t like Elon either, but don’t go spreading fake information. This kind of thing also happens on X, just the other way around.
They also recalled the Pinto and halted production! Yet Teslas are still being sold! Why anyone would buy such an unsafe car and support Melon is beyond me
If you drive a Tesla and especially a dumpster/cybertrick -spelled correctly bc the joke is on the buyer. You’re an asshole and/or you have a tiny penis.

Time to sell them. There are a shit ton of Elonia butt kissers who will buy now.
Musk. It's easy.
FACT: EVs burn about 1/10 as often as ICEVs per mile driven.
Fire isn't the issue. Diss Telsas for Very High death rates due to distraction from the central screen.
Teslas are amazing cars, we own 2 of them, have saved thousands in gas and pollution. Musk sucks balls, dude isn’t even at the company anymore.

But💲💲💲 over human life for the Muskrat as always
Others used to envy people who own Teslas, now we laugh at them.

750 miles isn't what I'd call "crazy".
It's also less than the annual average for internal combustion engine vehicles and hybrid vehicles.

No GenX, too young to vote
No Millennials, not born yet
No Hate Media, Americans wouldn’t have put up with it
No Russians interfering, lest we shove a couple hundred IVBMs up their backside
