Apparently the best approach is freezing your credit at all three credit agencies. I don't know why that is not the default, but here we are, doing the corporations' work for them once again. You can unfreeze temporarily if you need to take out a loan.
It's a scam! The first thing they ask for: your SS#!
If you didn't have my social security number I wouldn't be in a jam in the first place. You fucking thieves!
After yet another fraud alert, I froze my credit a few weeks ago on all 3. If you search “[credit site] credit freeze” it takes you right there. Was very quick and easy, but you will need to create an account, obvs.
Interesting. I have experian credit monitoring after several breaches and they haven’t said anything to me. I would hope they would if it had become a real threat.
I’m constantly notified of a data breach. I have so many free credit monitoring accounts that I had to create a spreadsheet to keep track of them. All these data breaches are not only worrisome, but exhausting.
I contacted all 3 credit bureaus; Experian, Transunion & Equifax, & asked them to put fraud all 3 to put fraud alerts on! I’m not taking any chances with what little money I have, & it’s a sad day in the country when we can’t even trust the FDIC!
I logged into https://ID.me to get my most recent SS statement and it warned me that my password was part of a detected breach and asked if I wanted to change it. Hard pass…not giving them ANOTHER one!! FFS
My credit has been frozen for a while. I'm considering more drastic plays.
Don't forget to get your benefits information the social security has on file for you.
At this point it is probably safe to assume that all our data has been breached. Now we wait to see what they will do with it. Another step towards totalitarian control.

You all can do this but you need to do it on all 3 credit sites:
Experian
Equifax
Trans Union
They have free options but you will need to dig for them as they push their paid subscriptions hard.
seems appropriate.
'Major Data Breach' is more of a formal title.
Bad actors can literally take advantage of you at any moment
Now that I say it out loud maybe that didn’t help.
