I've seen some people following the Switch 2 system design leaks, a little dissapointed it appears to be "Switch, but better" rather than a more "Weird Nintendo" creative departure. I'm completely okay with it being the Switch but better. All I really want is for it to have a higher resolution when docked. I want to play on the TV and the OG Switch looked terrible when docked. If they do that I'll gladly buy it.

also like, why would they diverge from one of the most successful consoles of all time? i just hope they make the joycons much more comfortable (they don't need to be as flat as me) and implementing a new joystick. that's all they need to do on the design.

I mean Nintendo clearly doesn't want to make a new console is clearly the thing. They feel a need for development and 3rd party reasons but The Switch is such a massive success. Like the 3DS from the DS it's gonna be a super safe move and still struggle becuase moving that install base is impossible

Nintendo audiences are way less bothered by tech advances. It'll be the software that sells it, as always. Backwards compatibility should be a no-brainer.

All leaked designs seem to agree it'll be physical and digital backward compatible, with new carts slightly differently shaped to prevent inserting into the old Switch.

While I get your point, a backwards-compatible system with enough improvements sounds like the perfect move. The Switch has created and dominated a niche for years, and there's no reason for Nintendo to leave it just yet.

I mean, look at 3DS. More powerful hardware with a joystick and better internet connection plus a gem-packed catalogue turned out in such a delightful system. Of course, it can end up as bad as in Wii U’s case, but the Switch player base just feels different to Wii’s.

I hope at least this means they will go more silly with it in OS/software department. Bring back streetpass or make something really weird. Also maybe they will go more crazy with extra stuff for their fitness game, a kin ring fit or use ring from ring fit more.

By combining their home console and handheld divisions into one system, Nintendo no longer has a fallback if a wacky creative choice is poorly recieved. The other pillar can't carry the slack to weather a generation.

I think, in that context, a safe follow up to a sucessful device makes sense.

At least until we know what kind of handhelds Sony and MS make, if any at all. It may be when they start making handhelds, Nintendo goes back to a standardized console.

Yeah I think it makes sense for backwards compatibility and it's sure to do well. I never bought a Switch so I know I'm going to get this one and have a blast catching up on all the games I missed out on plus whatever they make next.

I agree. I do hope they bring back some of the Nintendo charme from earlier consoles though. I miss alot from the 3ds, like the themes and little animations and music for the menu. And the detailed activity. Also I want more wacky Mii minigames.

I think there is such a thing as trying too hard to be creative. The Switch is a cool system and I think the only thing you can really do with it is just improve the tech on it to run bigger games. You can tell some games took a graphical hit to run on Switch.
