There were places nearby that take LPG bottles for free, but they wouldn't take these ones.
1.) If there is still usable gas in them you can drop them in at an outdoor store (Paddy Palin, etc.) for them to pass on to others. I do this after hikes where I need to fly home.
2.) Jet boil CrunchIt or old school opener lets you crush the can for recycle
