Aaron Renn’s “three epochs” of Christianity start roughly around the time he was born and continue to the present day. When he was a child, it was all good. Things have gone downhill from there. A fairly narcissistic view, but one shared by many older folks.

100%. I’m Jewish. My new teacher orientation in Memphis was at a conservative Baptist church and started with a very Baptist prayer and the level of give-a-shit about how that made me feel was through the floor.

I would like to be able to live in a pluralistic society with conservative Christians. I would like for there to be space for that. They have never once given me any indication that they feel the same way, or that they are even capable of such a thing.

the whole "are they Christians" discussion is always weird for me because on the one hand they're doing a lot of stuff that seems pretty heretical but on the other hand they *say* they're Christian quite explicitly and it's not like anyone can kick them out of the club

I do see the argument that there is a chunk of people who are the religious equivalent of disengaged voters who can be turned against these people by denouncing them as heretics, but in the immediate sense that doesn't do anything to solve the problem

I think pointing out the heretical nature of it is useful, ad far as it goes, and something people should do openly, but only as a means of winning the intra-religious conflict. It is, ultimately, an *intra*religious conflict. Other Christian sects have to want to do something about it

As a southern ex-Jesus person who grew up indoctrinated in this shit, I'm still wary of people who feel the need to put things like "Jesus first!" in their bios. That's a lvl a lot of church people around me in rural GA don't feel!
