While infiltrating a goblin camp, one of my players wanted to try and tame a caged, abused worg by putting his hands to the bar to make a connection. He rolled a 1. I rolled to attack him in response. Nat 20. His character lost 4 fingers past the knuckle. Iconic moment from the campaign

During a rare game where I got to be a player in D&D after becoming a Forever GM, our crew was slogging through a desert when a young dragon attacked. We were not high enough level to take on even a young dragon (the encounter was meant to drive us back another way) but we still decided to have at.

The fight was going predictably poorly with us getting a few good shots in but otherwise getting our asses handed to us. Then the ranger got a nat 20 hit with a max damage roll, just barely taking out the last of the dragon's HP.

The GM frowned very deeply, threw his pencil on the table, and straight up said we shouldn't have been able to do that, could we please just go the way he needed us to go.

He wasn't very amused but we definitely were.

Yeah, same game he tried to deter us from a different direction with a perpetual sandstorm. Never seemed to occur to him that, since we were in a mostly featureless desert, he could've just had us pop up at our eventual destination no matter which way we went with us none the wiser.

In our party's 2nd fight, I tried to shoot a skeleton next to our adventure guide (NPC ally) - Nat 1.

One-shot killed our adventure guide with an arrow in the first session of the adventure 🙃

In my first game playing PF1e the GM was with one of th eother players in a chatroom where we played online, I wandered in not expecting people to be there and they were cool with me joining in what had been a solo side mission.
The side mission had supposed to end with the solo player captured >

So that when the rest of the party were available we could attempt a heroic rescue mission.
With minimal help from my character, they instead managed to take on an entire goblin camp and their chieftain, and win.
(I did help a bit - I set the camp on fire and rolled really high for how much burned!)

Not but 2 days ago, our playtest group had 4 full rounds of unsuccessful rolls. I have never seen anything like it in my many years of table top gaming.

Oh God - the fucking Rangers teaming up to jizz into a holy fountain so I made them roll for acrobatics (because it was mid-boss fight) and the little bastards both got nat 20s.

So I gave them an extra boss for angering the god and the Dragonborn assassin ended up carrying the entire team.

GM was running a WoW-inspired homebrew system. We were underground with a corrupt dragon guarding the only exit (and it was established it wouldn't go investigate noises). I used elemental magic to tunnel out a new exit.

My class received a purely coincidental rework afterward...

Well, fairly recently we were up against a Beholder in D&D that we were way too low level for. He was a rather vain sculpture "artist", so our bard and fighter duo tried to convince it that the best sculpture he could ever make was of himself. They rolled a nat20 for him to petrify himself.
