I think for me it's gotta be a toss-up between Aliens and The Wrath of Khan. Two of the all-time greats of sci-fi, but in such totally different ways, both building on what came before and taking it in new directions.

Halloween II (1981). It was the first movie sequel I saw that picked up on the same night and carried the story forward in real time. Not the “best” sequel, but it was the first that made an impression.

For me, its The Godfather PartII.

Bride of Frankenstein
Lord of the Rings: Two Towers
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Star Trek Into Darkness
Loved them all in that they stay true to the characters and expand on the emotional relationships & drama.
