Twitter’s revenue is based on engagement. All engagement. If you’re posting, replying, or being replied to, you’re boosting the platform. I’m not passing any judgement. Just regurgitating an argument I’ve heard against staying.

I thought revenue was cost per click or cost per engagement. Like when I used to do digital ad buys -- You paid per click and per eyes on your promoted tweet.

If I'm not one of those people, how do I contribute to that?

Twitter sells ads based on its traffic. They pay “creators” based on their engagement. All interactions are monetized. To my knowledge their data scraping and tracking aren’t as sophisticated as fbook, but not clicking ads means very little.

Right but like - I don't SEE ads or promoted content because I'm not engaging I'm only posting. And even when I was reading and engaging, it was through the lists I made not through the feed the algorithm fed me. I also deleted the app years ago fearful what it was collecting.

It’s not like a website where ad blocker or not clicking banners means no revenue for the site. I tried, but I don’t feel I can give you a satisfactory explanation. Do what makes you happy.

I cannot.

I deactivated my Twitter account today, but it had been months since I used it, and had removed all my posts.

I don't have any issue with others continuing to use it.

I use social media primarily as entertainment, for enjoyment, and I didn't want it eating into my enjoyment.

Yeah, I definitely don't engage with people on it anymore for my own mental health - but I do push out my content and upload videos that I don't write up. But I was also using it based on my lists - not the algorithm's feed. So, maybe I'm just not what he thinks I am

At last count, Twitter has 250 million "daily active users" who spend approximately 24 minutes per user per day.

It just seems like such a large number of people to ignore. Like if you're running a campaign, you'd still knock a lot of those doors
