6.3 million homes already at risk of flooding so yeah why not build some more. Insurance companies are already calling this out so many homes won’t be insurable in the future.

IMHO in the end it will be the insurance companies who will in the end make governments, corporations and others change route, because they will start to refuse to insure them in particular areas.

IMHO we sure are... I would make it madatory that previous flooding is added to searches when buying houses. They are available, but you have to know that and pay for them separately. Most of the public are not aware that there is a flood map available to check out a particular area's risk.

I've travelled around the south west of England working on the railway for the last 30 years, and there are so many places that you know will flood every winter, and then suddenly there houses being built on those flood areas. Presumably the land is cheap because it's a known flood risk.

Yes - and, sadly, because the land is cheaper, there are quite a number of care homes & other key infrastructure built in these areas to cut costs - understandable, but not very forward thinking.

Natural flood defences are usually much more effective than artificial ones. Flood plains exist for a very good reason. You’d hope that government ministers were better educated and had more sense & compassion than to condemn people to the misery of flooded homes!
