Gonna do a thread of my big Discworld reread and here:

The Colour of Magic: going back to this after so long is rough, especially since I just read Hogfather (more on that when it comes up in sequence.) it's a fine parody of Lieber and Moorcock et. al. but we're not there yet. Fun enough though.

It just all finally clicks in to place. Mort's great, Death really gets fleshed out (IN A MANNER OF SPEAKING), just nothing but net. Great stuff.

You can! There are sort of series-within-series, Mort is the first book focused on Death and there's a thread of books that follow on from it, mostly about him and eventually his granddaughter Susan. The three big threads are the Night Watch of Ankk-Morporks' guards, the Witches and Death.

Your next stops are Reaper Man, Soul Music, Hogfather and Thief of Time in that case! Death is the only character to appear in almost every book but generally it's a bit of a cameo

There are smaller threads that go through as well, like the Wizards (and occasionally specifically Rincewind, who has a cameo in Mort), as well as total standalones like Small Gods and Pyramids etc. there are plenty of reading guides if you're interested or you can do them in publication sequence

People tend not to recommend that because the first two books specifically (and especially The Colour of Magic) are more parodies of early-mid 20th century sword and sorcery and it's not quite all there yet tonally, but they are a good time.
