Also, by the time of the next election, people just need to see things are going in the right direction, they're not stupid and don't expect miracles, for Labour to win a second term
I used to listen to the News Agents a lot but so much of it was about how things would "play" rather than the actual effect policies would have in the real world that I got sick of it. Which is a shame because I think they're all really good journos.
So hacked off by the "what does [thing] mean for Reeves/Starmer" headlines. It's not football! I don't give a shit what it means for them, or the government, or labour; I just want things to work and be good.
And:
"It is irrelevant whether the Prime Minister is popular."
FFS it's not a talent show.
It just matters whether the government as a whole are capable and effective.
Honestly I see nothing that Labour are doing that's likely to create growth in 5 or 50 years. We don't have the Workers to build the infrastructure or fix the NHS and until somebody starts telling the truth about migration and trade it's all rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.
I have no idea what you mean by that. I rarely consume "both sided" msm but it's clear that Racist and bigoted opinions are being entertained in a way they would never have been since the 1970s.
It's very odd, isn't it? All I can think is that this maybe also an after-effect of the pandemic really warping people's sense of time, because it's as if all they can remember is that strange period when we had GEs every two years.
If you've not already read Sarah Kendzior books about the USA, you might want to. She posited the Biden presidency was a 'placeholder' before a second Trump term, are we looking at the same in the U.K., while the fascists get their ducks in a row? I wouldn't bet against it.
Except the GOP was still going strong in the US and was able to undermine enough of Biden’s agenda to enable their argument of failure.
The same isn’t true here. The tories are a dying party with no decent MPs who could save them & Reform can’t expand their support without losing the far right.

So they know they have to undermine the Labour Gov before it is successful ....
And then hammer the negative over the positive ...
