I try to remember that our minds are wired to look for threats it’s how we protect ourselves. It’s negativity bias, and it means we tend to notice the bad more than the good. That’s why it’s so important to make an effort to look for the good stuff. It is there.
I feel it too. Here’s a photo of my cat Jupie. She got diagnosed with arthritis today. My current contemplation of the future is finding an easier way for her to get around.
Tip: Don't contemplate the future. Anything you project from what you know now will be derailed by something nobody could have predicted. Go to bed every night praising yourself that you survived today.
What helps me avoid despair is taking concrete action with others IRL. Mutual aid, labor organizing, community organizing. Find a local org that resonates with you. For me that is DSA, I believe we can change the world with a mass movement of the working class. https://dsausa.org/join
Good after the bad. It has to be this way. Bad = destruction and there’s nothing left to destroy. Trump is a destroyer. So is climate change. Better days ahead.
Gratitude for the little things, seriously, look around you right now and find anything to be grateful for. Then take a long relaxing breath and say - in 100 years despair won’t matter . . . therefore I’ll smile for this moment, I’m proud of myself for making the effort to become positive change.
When I worry about the future I look to the past to remind me that we can overcome horrible people. It’s just annoying as fuck that history keeps repeating itself.
How long have you been reading my mind? But seriously, knowing that there are still people like you in the world does add an additional lumen of hope to life
The battle before us will be difficult and painful. Despair is your enemy's greatest weapon. Fascism thrives by making the powerful seem powerless. 31% of total voters voted for trump, 49.5% of total votes cast, but of all US citizens ONLY 22.3% agree with Trump's hate filled vision.
Truth is, we have no idea what's going to happen. Literally anything could happen, bad or good, and we might not know for years sometimes if it really was for the better or worse. Keep your heart, mind and spirit open in these trying times.
Same. I want to believe we can survive four more years, But, will it ONLY be four more, or will we be fighting for generations to reclaim democracy? I believe there will be so many that don't have the wherewithal to survive this. My heart hurts.
Jane, Shitler has told folks at his fundraisers that if they elect him this time, they will never have to vote again. I believe him 💯. My heart hurts as well, but my soul is telling me to fight this with every fiber of my being.
Never give in and never give up. 💕
Every night I fall asleep wondering if I'll be awakened by my door being kicked open by fascists who've come to take me to a camp somewhere for tortuous "re-education." Every day I consider unaliving myself because it seems like the only way I'll avoid this fate.
Take that Nervous Energy and turn it into ACTION! 🥰🥰 Read “Simple Sabotage Field Manual” from 1944; great way to pass the time & help your community.
Also consider learning, like by reading “On Tyranny” a great small book to pass the time! 🥰🥰
Being READY for action is therapeutic and FUN!
I was just thinking this morning that I don't really have anything to look forward to anymore. Just existing, day to day. Never has an election ever had this impact. I'm fortunate that I have dogs to take care of and a wife to greet each evening.
My husband, our dogs, and our cat are the only reason I didn’t jump off something really high. They keep me tethered. I've been depressed all my life, but until recent years, I was always upset about micro events: money, relationships, illness, etc. Never politics or elections. Until now.
Count your blessings. It hàs worked for me for over eight decades now. I have been able to get through many dark nigh[s of the soul by remembering to do so.
Actually, I think we should not only feel the despair, we should freak the fuck out and begin to organise and fight. There’s too much ‘nah, that’ll never happen’ and not enough ‘we need to do something about this NOW’ - that last sentence applies particularly to government.
I wrote my books set into the future 2000 years. I included Russia being conquered by the Imperium (a matriarchy) and a section of East Asia called "West Taiwan". #banned #Author #Booksky
I've found myself looking at the creatuve arts during the worst times in history. It's like the flower growing out of a crack in the concrete: persistent and beautiful. Meet with people in real life to enjoy the now. The now has never been guaranteed and never will, so seize it.
Keep up the “President Musk” taunts. That will guarantee the breakup of that bromance. Can he potentially make life hard? I guess, but he still has to go through Congress. Even his stacked SCOTUS didn’t install him as POTUS in 2020 (he was counting that they would). End
A lot of us (myself included) need a crash course in civics. It will help us to know what’s BS designed to get attention and what’s a real threat. 45 still does not have unilateral authority to just take Canada and Greenland, for example. We can manipulate 45. That thin skin can be exploited. 1/
It really does - feels good whenever I notice I'm getting it right. I found the concept of "glimmers" (moments of hope, gratitude, joy, or calm that pop up at you without thinking) helpful as I try to live more day-to-day. https://www.verywellmind.com/what-is-a-glimmer-5323168
Future has yet to be.
Why contemplate future not written while you can change before arrives?
Desperation over thing can not see or control is meaningless lift up self and walk.
Walk 2 miles or what ever distance can.
Need to walk when desperation enters thought process
Go to store
Go out
Go bowling
Just be great RIGHT NOW and when others and their horrid lies and cheats and scams and religions and politics and economy and etc etc come at you over
And over
And over
And over?
Have faith, there are people in your community who will face| the troubles of the day when you are unable to. It has always been so. There are those of us who stand at the the ramparts and have always been able to do so.

When the sky looks like hell and ash is falling like snow… hope is scarce.
Hopefully it will inspire change.
I hope
“I promise you there is something worse out there than being sad, and that's being alone and being sad.”
Emily, you’re not alone.
There are millions of good people who are here for you to vent to.
Vent away.
Hopefully some of us can make you smile through the tears.
Believe! Together!
Is that what you want?
There is good news out there!
Try taking it ONE DAY AT A TIME !! Deal only with that day !! Energize overnight to tackle the next one !!
(no sarcasm, hang in there)

Not easy, but it can be done.
And thus, I've stopped trying.
Ask me anything.
