This shit really fucking drives me up the wall, I remember last time it came up on here I was like "well yeah you can say Nobody Has Been Canceled if you never define it so you never have to squarely say someone has faced enough consequences". People will say it about people who killed themselves
"freedom of counter-speech" you know what they say about people like me categorically on libs of tiktok yeah. is that "counter-speech". what's the red line? a receipts file? sure is a good thing everyone who gets sucked into a mob is in a great state to read triggering shit critically
"freedom of dis-association" - charming way of describing disposability. i know you only consider celebrities and other people rich enough to have PR teams and force everyone to pay attention to them & rich enough to want for nothing else real, but in practice the actual thing gets outta hand fast
have you never seen a mystifying series of runes with "dni" in front of it. you ever wonder how any specific iteration of that started? you have any idea how many trans people's wasted years, decades, etc started with talking to someone who was unpersoned in the wrong hater's sight?
i am not a separatist but frankly one of the more salient arguments for it in my mind is that cis people will wander into these things, hear someone use a bunch of power words like "boycott" or "language of the oppressed" or whatever, and not really bother thinking any more or asking questions
never seem to notice that the ppl justifying themselves with this high-handed nonsense sure seem to have a lot of wiggle room in their terminology, a lot of edge cases & broken stairs they like climbing actually, and maybe kinda farm a bit of clout intracommunally out of being that kinda dangerous
this shit's been a problem since the 80s in the lesbian community and they called it trashing back then. the nucleus of a lot of modern US transphobia is in fact a trashing campaign by a salty cis woman against a trans musician who wouldn't fuck her. stop playing with dynamite for brownie points
