I think it literally means Canadian content, idk shorthand for stuff changes so often I barely keep up

cancon refers to the thing in media where there's a dedicated percentage of content broadcast in canada which has to be produced in canada/by canadians. this is a championist measure meant to prevent it from becoming America 2 because its population centers are all very near american ones

a strange result of this is that canadian recording artists and media properties have a sort of walled garden they can succeed in and blowing up in america is not strictly required for them to become big here. so we get a lot of their acts as crossovers

That's actually super interesting and awesome!! Yeah I remember hearing cancon in a Kurtis Conner video, but he didn't explain it super in depth, thanks for the info!!
