Something very unusual happened to bonds that day. A giant sell off in the markets and bonds, the safe haven, decreased in price. That never happens. Even an agreement to not buy bonds would exacerbate a sell off.

Nothing wonky about it. This writer (don’t know his political leanings) missed the part that the OP never stated Canada sold the bonds - just that they can. Same with JPN. Japan DID begin to sell some of their holdings until Trump called their PM and JPN’s tariff level dropped to 10%.

Fact is that data on Bonds is issued every 3 months, there's no trading platform, you can buy OTC bonds or from the issuer so this story is indeed not true, at one point this is not better than far right fake news.
