Probationary employees are receiving termination notices today at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). Notices have already started going out, per agency source.

And I bet their termination emails said some version of, “you have failed to
demonstrate fitness or qualifications for continued employment.” A lie. Just slashing!
Also, those nuclear program employees who Trumusk terminated until "OOPS!" And now they have to try to reverse the terminations.
Terminations at Kennedy Presidential Library today. Don’t know about others. Hard to follow the morass. NARA has extensive section in their FY 2024 appropriations doc for preserving history and making it accessible to underserved communities. I know I’m not stating correctly. Assault on history.
NARA also houses the Office of the Federal Register - publishes daily Federal Register, the Code of Federal Regulations, and Statutes-at-Large, and other statutory requirements.
So no documentation on what this criminal organization is doing. I'm surprised it took this long for him to go after NARA given they're the ones who started the whole "what the fuck did he just take" situation that got him in trouble.
I cannot explain what a huge and unprecedented deal this is. Library of Congress subject headings are used for EVERYTHING, every database you ever use pulls from them. If they can make these changes at this speed, there's no telling what else can be erased. I am really hoping people spread the word!
paging #Democrats, esp. Governors and DAs. These employees are citizens of your states. Fucking do something. #VoteBlue #StopMAGA #resist #DeportPresidentMusk #Impeach4547 #ImpeachTheMF #impeachJD
They might as well be burning it down. We cannot afford for NARA information to be “lost” or destroyed. Smuggle out what you can and connect with anyone of us who is willing to help.
I'm not as worried about paper records disappearing -- harder to do than just wiping out digital ones. But without staffing, they're not accessible to researchers or the public.
I think a big part of this systematic reduction is the flawed thinking that reducing headcount by 10% will result in 10% budget savings. But it won’t. It will just mean that people remaining have to do the work of two. Labor is only a small fraction of the federal budget.
Also the people they "reduce" aren't going to be the least productive ones; they'll be the most productive ones that don't feel like sticking around through the constant denigration and rounds of layoffs to get stuck holding the basket for no respect and little relative pay.
Interesting point I just heard listening to @justsecurity.org podcast: Probationary employees aren't all "new." If you've been working your whole career in the government and recently changed agencies or positions it might include you too. 😠
Exactly. This happened to a family man we know. It is completely greedy, selfish, and motivated by revenge and worse. MUSK and Trump are both very very bad people who care nothing about real people.
The fascists can now destroy original source documents that can never be replaced. It will then be much easier to change the narrative to their lying version of history. Beyond criminal.
Tragic -- they call the Smithsonian "the nation's attic," but it's NARA that's holding the old papers that hold our history. They retrieved for me the Indiana land patents my gr-gr-gr-grandfather got from Pres. Monroe in 1818.

1984 in real time. Changing history and redacting news
Or is this just an innocent downsizing.
Is this true for Federal employees?
