Here we further characterize methylolanthanin (MLL), a chelator that is involved in Ln metabolism in bacteria (see https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.2322096121) Yes, methylotrophic bacteria use La, Nd... in their C1 metabolism! #fblockrocks They use them in the active site of methanol dehydrogenase enzymes. @sophieguti.bsky.social found that unexpectedly, both #metallophores precipitate Lns under biologically relevant conditions. We used a combination of single-cell (sc)ICP-MS and LC-MS analysis of bacterial supernatant to investigate the Nd accumulation and MLL secretion under differnet conditions

Finally, we use ion mobility spectrometry-mass spectrometry to investigate the RPB B and MLL complexation in the gas phase with Fe3+ and #lanthanides. Our results challenge the classical siderophore-like Ln-uptake (via simple solubilisation) through MLL
