Mark Landers floated the possibility of John Kiely turning to Shane Dowling to replace the injured Nickie Quaid in goal in 2025 on his Examiner Sport podcast with Anthony Daly and TJ Ryan.

Dowling retired in 2019 due to persistent knee injuries but made a return to his club side Na Piarsaigh in goals and has played there for their senior side over the last couple of seasons, and his performances have raised the chance that he might be on John Kiely's radar in the months ahead.
Jason Gillane, brother of Aaron, and David McCarthy have been the men behind Quaid in recent years and will no doubt be foremost in the mind of the Limerick set up but with Dowling's experience at the top level, he could be an intriguing option.
