Wow! That’s great! I always have problems with word count. I always come up short, but for my third book that’s coming out this year, I feel like I’m finally getting it! 😃

Anytime my word count is short, be it a chapter or the whole book, the culprit is generally interiority. My character’s head space is thin which loses the intimacy of the story. Although a lot has changed in my last rewrite, the story went from 80,000 to 120,000 words mostly from added interiority

I’ve edited almost 500,000 words on https://critiquematch.com and the most common issue people have (aside from head jumping POV) is a lack of interiority!

It’s a website for people to trade chapters and entire manuscripts, providing feedback back and forth. The interface is a little janky but there’s a thriving community on there for every genre and at every skill level. It’s a great resource! You should check it out.

Some of the best speculative fiction I’ve read, like Armfield’s Our Wives Under the Sea or Clark’s Piranesi are completely enveloped in interiority such that they hardly come up for air (dramatized events).

Extreme cases, but the reader’s fascination is essentially to know the character~
