gundam age feels like some avant-garde conceptual art piece exploring the limits of how much meat you can strip off the bones before your show stops counting as telling a story and just becomes images in sequence with no meaning behind them

it's like a cargo cult anime where they vaguely know the shape this sort of show should take but none of them have ever seen one and are just making their best guess as to what they should fill it out with
the show sets up a dynamic where the gundam boy and his rival are attending school together, and the rival boy is there as a spy for the enemy army, so he's doing spy missions while the gundam boy stops him without knowing it's his friend who's the pilot
the very next episode starts by resolving a cliffhanger from an episode that never got made, skips forward 16 months in a single montage and goes immediately to the reveal, which obviously doesn't hit at all because we have spent no time whatsoever with the characters
at one point the characters look at a wall of photographs and say "wow that was fun! i sure did like getting to do things with you and develop a relationship with you over time!" for a bunch of stuff we never got to see
they forgot to put a show in the show!!! every episode slides perfectly off my brain, i don't know if there's ever been anything else bad in this specific way. it's kind of impressive
it has a bit where a lalah-type story happens, but it's infinitely dumber and the girl has less agency than any woman in all of gundam and we never see the gundam boy interact with her outside of montages of them frolicking together
