Finally got the IT Lava Lamp flowing properly. It sat for 10+ years and apparently the wax can separate? It isn't perfect but is much better than when I first turned it on.

are you doing long cycles or resorting to a hairdryer? I know you can get replacement wax if it doesn't recover but it's looking pretty good so far!

I got a smart plug and flashed it tasmota. Have it on for 8 hours, off for 4. Over time it is looking a lot better. Just being patient.

It has a bottle cap type top so don't want to crack it open and risk really screwing it up.

There is an entire Reddit on restoring these and the long cycles seem to fix a lot of the wax issues if you don’t shake them up (shaking is apparently bad for the wax)

Never really connected with spyglass folks. A lot of that stuff made it into IE3. IE4 (I joined at the tail end) was a pretty big rewrite of the rendering engine with Trident. That was almost completely new code IIRC.

But some of my classmates in high school (the McCools) ended up at UIUC and then netscape. If things had gone differently maybe I would have ended up there!
