Holy hell. It’s the 40th anniversary of the Violent Femmes first album. I saw them perform at the old 9:30 Club in DC in the late 80s. This is airing on PBS now:

They were the soundtrack to 1984 and now the Nats play Blister in the Sun between innings (but never the lyrics). And no one requests country death song anymore.
LOL I was too chonky and closeted to be a twink anyway! But I wore this album out! I don’t think I realized Gordon looked like that back in the day. Damn!
I’m more in the Sanho era but Phil Ocjs voice on Tape from California gets me every time. Love Joan and never have been able to get into Dylan. That’s a me problem I’m sure!
I saw them preform live at the memorial union in downtown madison around the same time I missed Kurt Vonnegut because I was smoking pot. Maybe femmes was a few years before, hard to say, my memory is so hazy.
