Hot take:
Calling something a *insert game here* killer hypes it up too much and ruins the experience and fun of the game when players realize its the same or very similar gameplay loop as the game its supposed to be the killer of.
The only killer of a game series is the game series themselves.

I once heard the game Tower of Fantasy described as a Genshin killer by someone I used to know and I legitimately haven't seen or heard anything about it in like the 2 years since
So many times have "killers" have great ideas that die because they aren't perfect yet like the game its "killing" is. Well "perfect".
Calling something a game killer is lazy journalism and lazy marketing.
Its just the simplest and easiest way to get attention on something but the moment players realize its not different from the game its killing they will leave.
There is no Fortnite killer except Fortnite itself.
There is no smash killer except smash itself.
Just have fun with new games and support them. Calling them a game killer will make them 100% less fun for you and everyone else
Sorta like back when COD and BF were two games in the same genre, but still stood out one another cause they did their own thing.
While i do see how different they are based on maps (cod small maps but bf large maps) and bf having actual bullet drop off.
But past that yeah they are kinda just the same games at this point
These days I mostly stick to older games because almost every new game is the same as one I've already played :/
>it’s just a monster tamer game with no connection or tie to Pokemon in the slightest
>Thats the entire genre for some fucking reason
I’ve seen people call Monster Hunter Stories a Pokemon clone lol
And then WoW didn't fucking die and it was taken to mean the MMO was bad, and sure there were a lot of misses, but some were treated so unfairly.
(RIFT btw was one of them and the only reason that game died was because the devs killed it, not because it was always bad.)
Sad it takes harming a community but thats how it goes
It was sad to see it die.
Just ask the TF2 community
