If you can tolerate the murky origins of ResearchEd, the recent resignation of all other directors, apart from Tom Bennett, over no move to charity status and its obvious bias towards ‘traditionalism’, good luck in attending. I’ve read this before & I don’t quite understand the Ben Goldacre connection. I gather he knew Sam Freedman, but unless there was other factors at play, then why would he, be at that point, so 2014, a talisman for evidence based research, maybe due to his minor celebrity & Guardian column /1

That’s the problem with ResearchEd’s origins. It wasn’t conceived as a research organisation. It was contrived as a support for Gove’s Trad policies & Bennett happened to be an education face. Instead of ResearchEd, it should be called BiasEd. It’s research to back a purpose & that’s not research.

Definitely an agenda, point to rollout of Applied Behaviour Analysis which spans Education & Health settings. But also academisation, including gaming of Ofsted in offloading supposedly failing LA schools into privatisation.

Surely there wld be similarly qualified candidates, CMO or Lord Simon Stevens, if you’re seeking medically connected involvement. Even David Halpern? Obvsly, he’s a talisman & bangs the drum for evidence, so this is not a criticism per se.

Yes, there were many others, but this was not a candidate situation. This was a shilling, toady situation. They found someone willing to give up any pretence of Education for the shelter of Michael Gove & significant favour & cash.

And it’s made Bennett a richer man. Like other Tory shills.

Due to BG’s celebrity it’s doubtful he needed the money or status. I’m assuming he acted in good faith. I don’t want to disparage. Think the evidence base argument & the sense about science initiative are forces for good.

An organisation that picks research based on its own beliefs. Like the thorny issue of peer reviewed studies. Studies that have yet to be evaluated & have not reported adverse effects. Widely acknowledged are open to bias & fraud. Definitely some charlatans selling ABA.
