I do not like using Excel, but that is irrelevant when I am forced to work with it.
Looking at that, another advantage that comes to my mind is "scratchpad-i-ness" - it‘s easy (often encouraged) to work bit by bit. You can see intermediate states and representations. Comfortable for explorative work.
