(this part is a bit of a brag). My ancestors donated the land on which the university of north carolina stands. I am of this place, and I am proud of this place, and I love this place, but when it's time to go, it's time to go. My son was born in vietnam, and I'm worried.

One more bit about Chapel Hill, then i'll shut up. Misty was worried about moving to the south because, you know, but when she got here she took to it like a duck to water. My wonderful late wife, meanwhile, was president of her class at Princeton Day, and lettered three years in a row in hockey at the big H. That's the world I knew. My BFF is an MD/PhD. I thought everyone was. Me not smrt sometime, but I am a very devoted partner and a good judge of character.

The second part of that line was along the lines of, 'if you're extremely lucky, you will have one relationship in your life that doesn't end badly.' I'm actually kind of naive about a lot of things, and I had no idea how bad it was where she lived. I'm still processing it. No one had ever made her so much as a peanut butter sandwich until she met me. (not a brag, a truth). She wasn't allowed to have a checking account. effity eff eff eff eff.
