A nice surprise. Penguin Random House is re-issuing my translation of Uno Chiyo’s The Story of A Single Woman ある一人の女の話。I first translated this novel in 1990 for Peter Owen in the UK and it was such an honor! “All the single ladies.”

Uno Chiyo and Akutagawa were acquainted. Akutagawa wrote a charming short story modeled on Uno as a young cafe waitress ( I think Jay Rubin translated it). It would have been cool to have included the two in a single volume.
