In January @lizsuhay.bsky.social & I will be co-EiC at Political Psychology. We will be the first EiC team that represents both of the key disciplines of this interdisciplinary journal.

This is wonderful, Mark and Liz! Fingers crossed, super excited for these much needed steps toward openness, interdisciplinarity, and inclusion ππ«‘
Political psychology (the field) is broad and we aim for Political Psychology (the journal) to publish a wide range of work. We welcome work from anyone studying political psychology, even if you do not identify as a political psychologistβ’
1. Registered reports: empirical articles that require peer review prior to data collection. Once the article receives an in-principle acceptance, authors conduct the work knowing their paper will be pub'd regardless of whether hypotheses are supported
Just a thought. Restricting RRs to be allowed only prior to data collection can really limit the kinds of studies eligible for the format. Of course there are complications when you allow post registration, but I think these restrictions really narrow the scope.
2. Critical dialogues: replacing book reviews, these dialogues will advance scholarly discussion by involving several authors reviewing one book or several authors of related books reviewing one anothersβ work
We also will require more transparency: authors should post their data, code, and materials to a trusted public repository prior to manuscript review (there are exceptions)
Our new adventure at the helm of Political Psychology will be aided by an international team of associate editors, drawn from 10 countries across five continents, a similarly international editorial board, and from reviewers (like you)l
